Just married! - Diane
Wow! Just got married on Sunday. This is SUPPOSED to
be the happiest time in my life, but I am experiencing a
confusing swirl of emotions - thrill mixed with sadness.
Utter joy tempered with shyness toward my new husband (we
dated for 3 years for godssakes). Feels like the day
after Christmas. I feel like being alone just to quiet
down my racing mind.
I married my best friend. I have no doubt wešll have
a long, happy lifetime together, but I am baffled by
these feelings! Is this similar to post-partum
depression? Has anybody out there had these feelings
post-wedding? Thanks for any insights.

Hi Diane! Many congratulations to you both!! I hope
you are feeling a bit better a few days into your
marriage!... What you describe does resemble some of the
feelings that women suffering through 'Postpartum
depression" experience... A mixture of elation and
anxiety, overwhelming love and also fear of the
responsibility that goes with the the situation. You do
say that "you married your best friend" That's
a wonderful basis for marriage I feel. Maybe your new
husband is having feelings similar to yours and a good
chat with him will make you both feel much better. I am
sure that what you describe is pretty 'normal' and it
just shows that you have not undertaken the step of
getting married lightly. I am sure you are going to have
a wonderful life together.
