Re: Mental Abuse ----- From: Cancer - Date: 04 Nov 1997
Hi M--I spent many years as a crisis hot line volunteer on a domestic abuse hotline. I can tell you from both personal and voluntary experience that she is exhibiting textbook behavior. The reason why her life was so ORDERLY is because he took charge. Also, its a familiar response. That is, she's used to "taking orders" from her SO. Consequently,it FEELS better to her. If someone isn't telling her what to do, it's uncomfortable. Make sense?
My suggestion? Read EVERYTHING YOU CAN on the subject and encourageher to do the same. Also, check in with your local domestic abuse hotline. They can help. If you're in a rural area, some hospitals can help.
Emotional abuse is sometimes more tragic than physical abuse. The reason? The scars are on the inside, you can't see them. They're tougher to treat and heal.
Good luck...my thoughts and prayers go out to you.
Always remember, with domestic abuse victims, they must be EMPOWERED to take back their lives. You can not give them the power, they must find a way to use the SUGGESTIONS, CHOICES OR OPTIONS that you present to them.
