June 20 Bills to pay, housework undone, meals to make, things to fix, a lawn to be mowed, job pressures, etc. If I'm in a good mood when I read the first line, I probably won't give them much more thought, except to do those things I decide to. If I'm in a down mood though, those reminders can easily drag me further down, leaving me feeling as if I'm in a pit that seems to be sinking lower and lower. My mood and perspective have a lot to do with how I handle challenges facing me each day, including difficulties in our relationship. I'd love a switch that could instantly change my emotions into pleasant ones whenever I wanted. Although I can't change my feelings that quickly, there are things I can do to bring me more peace inside. One of those is to simply take some time and think about all the blessings I do have. I'm alive; I have my health and food to eat; I haven't murdered anyone; I have the ability to think, and feel. If I made a list of all the things that I do have that many other people don't, I would likely be surprised at how much I have to be grateful for, and how much better I feel after.
